An intensive introduction to the language "ab initio". Familiarisation with basic grammatical structures and pronunciation system. Acquisition of high-frequency elements of the language and the ability to use these. Introduction to practical communication skills in the language, spoken and written.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this Module the student should be able to:- exchange personal information, follow instructions in the target language;- sustain simple exchanges of conversations in the target language in a social context without lengthy pauses;- complete short written assignments in the target language with a sufficient level of grammatical and lexical accuracy to ensure communication;- understand information in the target language - written and oral - at a basic level.

Teaching / Learning Strategy

Teaching is theme based and classroom activities, which are student-centred, are a mixture of individual, pair and group work. Teaching is a combination of classroom and laboratory sessions.
