Summary of Content

This module is aimed at providing students with skills needed to critically analyse, assess and present a technical or a non-technical situation both at group discussions and in writing. The focus is on strengthening students' ability in technical writing and expressing/ describing the case or situation effectively. Students will learn taking responsibilities and roles in researching and distributing roles to fellow students in the group. This will further enhance their skills in leadership and delegation, time management and providing constructive feedback as well as work effectively in teams. Students will analyse case studies, use practical scientific methods in solving problems and recommend improvements, They learn to research, process, utilise , analyse and present information providing source. They contribute to discussions, exchange information, conduct and participate in meetings, present and discuss proposals. They will work on enhancing and developing proficiency in meeting the communication related requirements of the industry as well as of academic world. They will be able to demonstrate effective communication using oral, written and electronic methods and give effective presentations.

Teaching / Learning Strategy

Teaching and Learning will be done using variety of learning strategies like lectures, workshops, seminars and presentations. Student learning will be enhanced by using methods like: brain storming activities, group discussions, presentations, discussions on case studies, debates, video clips, guest lectures, peer assessment, research based and cooperative learning integrating technology. Experts from industries or visiting faculty will be invited as guest speakers. Student will receive learning support through tutorials, regular feedback and blackboard discussion forum. Students will be encouraged to become independent learners and undertake independent learning through training videos at Learning Resource centre (LRC). Students will learn to write use Six Step Approach and other skills learning in the Foundation studies. A continuous assessment style will be followed that will include both formative and summative structure as well as peer assessment.
