Summary of Content

The key purpose of this module is to introduce programme participants to: -360b7 The theoretical underpinnings of key research approaches b7 Contemporary approaches to research that are relevant to their field of professional practice and / or discipline b7 The knowledge and skills required to conduct robust and meaningful professional and disciplinary specific inquiry Approaches to research dissemination

Syllabus

Multi-model modes of delivery - on campus workshops, use of VLE, student group presentations, tutorial groups and exemplars of good practice. In time this module will be delivered by a blend of on campus and distance learning methods Teaching, learning and assessment. This is a 300 hour module made up of distance learning, workshops, interactive experiences via the VLE and self -directed agency based learning. Assessment will be summative with formative feedback via online activities supported by the VLE. Module Leader Dr Sharon Jackson

Teaching / Learning Strategy

-360 1 Key Concepts in Research: This element of the module will explore key concepts and ideas in research. 2 Reviewing the Literature: This element of the module will cover: (a) the role of literature review within the research process and (b) literature review as research methodology. 3 Qualitative and Quantitative Methods: Students will study the key paradigms of research and develop their understanding in relation to qualitative and quantitative approaches and associated methods. 4 Contemporary Approaches: This module considers contemporary professional and discipline specific approaches 5 Analytical Procedures: Students will learn about the processes involved in the analysis and interpretation of data and findings. Write- up, Presentation and Dissemination of Findings: Students will study various formats in which existing pieces of research have been disseminated in order to develop a critical understanding of research dissemination and modes of doing so.
