Summary of Content
Further development of the learner's linguistic and communicative competence. Development of learner's ability to initiate a range of exchanges and respond appropriately. Improvement of learner's awareness of relevant language skills and strategies. Improvement of learner's ability to investigate aspects of contemporary issues in the countries where the language is spoken. Sustained practice in techniques of a range of highly specialised language skills.
Syllabus
Extension and development not only of the linguistic competence but, above all, of the communicative competence of the learner. Development of learner's ability both to initiate exchanges and respond appropriately in a wide range of open-ended (spoken and written) linguistic contexts. Improvement of learner's awareness of language skills and strategies required for the discussion of topics of contemporary concern. Improvement of learner's ability to investigate aspects of contemporary issues of the country in question and apply the knowledge appropriately in a variety of contexts. Sustained practice in techniques of a range of highly specialised (spoken and written) language skills.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this Module the student should be able to:Write accurately and at length in the language over a wide range of topics;- discuss topics of contemporary political and economic concern with fluency;- understand the language when spoken at native speed;- analyse contemporary texts from a range of sources with particular attention to style, register etc;- use negotiating techniques appropriate to the business context.
Teaching / Learning Strategy
Analysis of the contemporary political and economic situation; analysis and discussion of a wide range of texts of varying contents and style; extended business simulations involving interpreting and negotiating techniques. Classroom activities will be mostly student-centred. All classes are conducted in the target language.
Indicative Reading
At this level, materials are taken from the current press, satellite broadcasts and a range of on-line resources.
Transferrable Skills
High level of oral and written communication skills, presentation skills. Business communication and negotiating skills. High level of intercultural awareness, research skills, co-operation and teamwork.
