Shine award for Gabriel

Award winner Gabriel Adegbite

CONGRATULATIONS to Nigerian PhD Accounting and Finance student GCU student Olusegun Gabriel Adegbite who has been successfully named Scottish runner up in the international Shine! Awards.

The Shine! Awards celebrate the achievements of international students and their contributions to life in the UK. To enter, students from around the world are asked to write a letter home explaining how they are making the most of their time in the UK. The focus is on life outside their studies; volunteer work, projects within the local community or any personal development since arriving in the UK.

Gabriel’s letter to his father was an extremely positive account of his seven years living and studying in the UK - describing the musical and voluntary projects he been a part of, and explaining how studying and lecturing in the UK has furthered his cultural understanding.

He spoke in detail of his charity Joyful Sound, a music label he started with the aim of reducing juvenile delinquencies in the UK communities through music and concluded: “I am happy that I took a wise decision to study in the UK. With my achievements so far, I am sure that you will encourage all my cousins, nephews and friends to make UK their study destination”.
