GCU’s Pei Ling Choo has been voted the National Union of Students’ and UK Council for International Student Affairs’ International Student of the Year.

Pei Ling was recognised at the NUS/UKCISA Internationalisation Awards, which celebrate the work of student unions, institutions, officers and students to support international students and improve their experience in the UK.

GCU’s own student of the year, too, Pei Ling is studying for a PhD in neurological rehabilitation and contributes to a wide variety of social and community activities at the University, across Glasgow and in Singapore.

Professor Valerie Webster, Executive Dean of the School of Health and Life Sciences and Pro Vice-Chancellor External Relations, said: “We are delighted that Pei Ling Choo has been named as the international student of the year.  Pei Ling is an exceptional student who fully embraces academic life and is highly active in a wide variety of community engagement projects in the local, national and international arenas. This award is richly deserved and gives recognition for all Pei Ling’s hard work and achievements since beginning her studies at GCU.”

Matt Lamb, Students’ Association President, said: “Congratulations to Pei Ling Choo on becoming International Student of the Year. As Student President I am extremely proud of all the activities our students take part in. Our students get involved in many opportunities and inspire others both within the University and externally.”
