GCU to host BSA Annual Conference 2015

The BSA Annual Conference will take place from April 15 to 17

Sociologists from across the UK will gather at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) next week when the University hosts the British Sociological Association’s (BSA) Annual Conference 2015.

The event, the primary annual conference for sociology in the UK, aims to showcase the latest sociological research; attract a concentration of international specialists in major research fields; provide a forum in which to discuss the teaching of sociology and the professional practice of being a sociologist; and facilitate debate, networking and professional development opportunities.

The theme for the conference is ‘Societies in transition: progression or regression?’ Keynote speakers will include Alice Goffman, Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin; Professor Colin Samson, University of Essex; and Professor Guy Standing, SOAS University of London. GCU sociologists will also take part in the conference, with contributions in the themes of sport, race and violence.

The BSA is the national subject association for sociologists in the UK. Its primary objective is to promote sociology. Members are drawn from a wide range of backgrounds and include researchers, teachers, students and practitioners in a variety of organisational settings.

The conference will take place from April 15 to 17.
