Professor Sawers chairs Smith Commission session at Scottish Parliament

Professor Lesley Sawers

Professor Lesley Sawers, Vice Principal and Pro Vice-Chancellor Business, Enterprise and Innovation at Glasgow Caledonian University, chaired an evidence session for the Smith Commission at the Scottish Parliament on Thursday 13 November.

The Smith Commission held the plenary at the Scottish Parliament, where representatives from civic groups - businesses, charities and other representative organisations - were questioned about their submissions by nominees from the five political parties represented at Holyrood.

During the session, the nominees were split into two groups and Professor Sawers chaired a session with representatives from 15 groups including the STUC, Poverty Alliance, Scottish Youth Parliament, Engender, NFU, FSB, SFE amongst others. During the 90 minute session, discussions focused on issues linked to energy, taxation, welfare, employment, poverty, equalities and climate change.

The Smith Commission was announced on September 19 to take forward the devolution commitments on further powers for the Scottish Parliament.
