Overview

Risk is everywhere and we manage risk daily from travelling to work or school to ensuring that we have enough money to cover our outgoings. Businesses do the same.

As a global Risk Manager, you'll be a keen communicator, analytical, enjoy problem-solving and building relationships across the organisation. Put simply, a career in Risk Management involves general business management but specialises in Risk.

Generally, roles and responsibilities involve working with an organisation's stakeholders to determine the potential opportunities and uncertainties facing businesses. A Risk Manager will evaluate these and develop suitable strategies to either reduce the uncertainties or enhance a business’s ability to capitalise on those risks.

If you are interested in any business subject, including operational and strategic management, public relations and media crises or business administration, this Risk Management degree offers you the ability to explore these issues from an industry-led perspective.

With big events such as COVID-19 and Brexit, the subject has never been more popular or embraced within the business community, meaning employment opportunities are currently extremely high for Risk Managers.

A Risk Management graduate can expect to earn an average starting salary of £25 - £30,000. The unique feature of this industry is that its specialist focus means the career ladder for graduates is relatively quick and alumni have reached much higher salaries within five years of graduating.

You'll gain professional qualifications while studying for this degree. This is highly attractive to employers and makes you even more prepared for entering the workplace. Our modules and learning strategy focus on building job-specific practical skills and you can expect to learn techniques such as Business Continuity and Crisis Management, Project Risk Management and International Risk Management.

Risk Management is a niche, close-knit sector with many opportunities to carve an exciting and secure career path. Graduates of this course have gone on to work in Project Risk Management and worked on developments such as HS2 as well as large international corporations like GSK, Morgan Stanley, Lloyd's of London, Aviva, Turner & Townsend, Mott MacDonald, Faithful + Gould, Stantec and PwC.

In reality, the potential opportunities for Risk Management graduates are endless, as demand for these skills spans all industries and organisations due to the holistic and all-encompassing nature of risk.
