Quantity Surveying pre-induction programme

Measurement for Direct Entrants

The Measurement for Direct Entrants programme is delivered by the School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment (SCEBE) at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) and has been designed for students who have received and accepted an offer into level 2 or 3 of the BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying programme.

The purpose of this programme is to introduce college students to:

  • The measurement rules contained in The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors New Rules of Measurement 2
  • Recording dimensions using the southern method of taking off
  • The use of software packages / spreadsheets for measurement and bill of quantities production.

Engagement in the Measurement for Direct Entrants learning materials will be of particular importance for students who are unfamiliar with the methods of measurement and measurement conventions outlined above.

Students will cover essential content from our Measurement 1 module. Engagement and completion of this programme will provide new students to GCU with the most up-to-date measurement techniques in preparation for further study and application of them once at GCU and within your future graduate career.
