How does it work?
Students can apply in their second year to go on exchange in their third year of study to one of our partner universities. You will not pay tuition fees to the partner university and must apply to SAAS or your other funding provider as normal.
Join our GCU Learn community, Exchange & Study Abroad, to find out about the options available for your course. Please be aware that these are updated before each application round. We also recommend that you attend any exchange presentations organised by your school.
Think about what you want from your exchange experience and take some time to visit our partner universities’ websites to find out about courses and student life.
Don’t limit yourself to destinations you are instantly drawn to, an exchange at one of our partners in a location you hadn’t previously thought about might be perfect for you!
You will need to take the equivalent number of credits per semester. 30 ECTS for European exchanges.
We have three application rounds. For exchanges starting in Trimester A, applications open in February. For exchanges starting in Trimester B, applications open in May. Direct entry students are able to apply for exchange in October. Exact dates will be advertised on our website and Facebook page.
As well as the online application, you will need to submit:
- Official GCU transcript (this can be obtained from the Campus Life desk)
- Copy of your passport
- Motivation letter of 250 words maximum telling us why you want to go one exchange and what you will gain from it.
- Destination choice form signed by your academic exchange coordinator (a list is available on our community). We will always try to offer students one of their top 3 choices however this isn’t always possible.
To apply, please join our Exchange & Study Abroad community on GCU Learn
Students will be informed of the outcome of their application a maximum of 2 weeks after the application deadline. You will then be nominated to the exchange university who will contact you with details of their application.
The Exchange Office is here to support you throughout the process, from researching your preferred exchanges to arriving home after you have completed your semester or year abroad. If you would like to speak to a member of our team about you options, please contact us providing your student ID and programme of study.
