Catriona Mowat, Disability Manager

Catriona manages the Disability Service, provides support to the Advisers in complex cases, and is responsible for ensuring that the Service delivers on its commitment to improving the overall experience for disabled students, through the promotion of inclusive practice and independent learning opportunities.

Danny Gallacher, Disability Adviser

Danny is one of our team of Disability Advisers, providing advice, information and facilitating access to services and facilities for disabled students and applicants. In addition to this, Danny coordinates the Summer Transition Programme and Mentoring Support for students on the autism spectrum.

Danny works compressed hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Mel McKenna, Disability Adviser and Disability Support Officer

Mel is one of our team of Disability Advisers, providing advice, information and facilitating access to services and facilities for disabled students and applicants. As a Disability Support Officer Mel co-ordinates our Mentoring and Assistance Services, as well as providing assistance and specialist mentoring support to students.

Mel works as a Disability Support Officer On Mondays and Tuesdays and a Disability Adviser on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Margaret McShane, Disability Adviser

Margaret is one of our team of Disability Advisers, providing advice, information and facilitating access to services and facilities for disabled students and applicants. In addition to this, Margaret coordinates the pre-entry Study Skills Workshops for incoming disabled students.

Margaret works compressed hours on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Niall French, Mental Health Advisor

Niall is a registered mental health nurse who supports students who may be experiencing emotional or psychological distress or personal difficulties. He co-ordinates support for students with mental health difficulties and act as a point of contact for the duration of their studies. He also works with to develop and put in place mental health support initiatives at GCU.

Lynn Ferrier, Mental health Advisor

Lynn is an occupational therapist who supports students who may be experiencing emotional or psychological distress or personal difficulties. He co-ordinates support for students with mental health difficulties and act as a point of contact for the duration of their studies. He also works with to develop and put in place mental health support initiatives at GCU.

Lynn works with us on a part time basis on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Claire Sampson

Claire supports students who may be experiencing emotional or psychological distress or personal difficulties. She co-ordinates support for students with mental health difficulties and act as a point of contact for the duration of their studies. She also works with to develop and put in place mental health support initiatives at GCU.

Claire works with us on a part time basis on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Tom Welsh, Assistive Technology Adviser & Trainer

Tom provides advice and training in the use of assistive technology (software and hardware) to overcome disability related barriers to learning. He provides one-to-one training and group workshops, and works alongside the Disability Advisers to identify technological solutions to promote independent learning.

Louise Ferguson, Administrative Assistant

Louise provides administrative support and a friendly front-line reception service to the Disability Service. Louise can arrange and reschedule appointments with any of the Advisers, and offer advice on many procedural issues relating to the services offered by the Disability Service.

Debbie Kettle, Disability Mentor and Disability Support Officer

As a Disability Support Officer Debbie co-ordinates our Mentoring and Assistance Services. As a Disability Mentor she assists in the preparation of accessible materials for students and provides a range of practical assistance to enable independent study and engagement in university life and provides specialist mentoring support for students on the autistic spectrum. Alongside this she works with the team to develop campaigns, new services and provides administrative support when needed.

Debbie works with us on a part-time basis on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Alice Brooke, Disability Mentor and Inclusion Facilitator

Alice assists in the preparation of accessible materials for students and provides a range of practical assistance to students to enable independent study and engagement in university life. She carries out dyslexia screenings, provides specialist mentoring support for students on the autistic spectrum and prepares and delivers guidance for staff in inclusive practice. Alongside this she works with the team to develop campaigns, new services and provides administrative support when needed.

Alice works with us on a part-time basis on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during term-time.
