GCU recognises that starting university can be an exciting time that brings many opportunities. It can also be a stressful and worrying time that brings its own unique challenges. We appreciate that applicants who experience mental health difficulties/those with long term mental illness may experience additional challenges and anxieties around starting university.

The Disability Team delivers a one day programme for such applicants, which aims to provide a smoother transition from school/college to university, to address anxieties around starting university and to explore the support available at GCU. We will also look at self-care and how to look after your mental health whilst at university.

Some of the topics that will be covered on the day include:

  • Introduction to support available at GCU
  • Strategies to help you manage your studies at university
  • Introduction to stress management
  • Mindfulness taster

Full details of the programme are available on Eventbrite, were you can also book your place.

We strongly encourage you to attend the programme as it is also an excellent opportunity to meet other incoming students, to share concerns and to ask questions. We look forward to meeting you, and working together during your time at GCU.

Please note that this programme is only available to prospective students who have accepted an offer of a place at GCU and intend to start their studies at GCU this academic year.
