The UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) introduced the Points-based System between 2008-2010. It is the main route for people from outside the European Economic Area who want to come here to work or study. There are four main routes in the Points Based System including the study route Tier 4:

  • Tier 1 - high value migrants (exceptional talent, general, entrepreneur, investor, graduate entrepreneur)
  • Tier 2 - skilled workers (intra-company transfers, general, minister of religion or sportsperson)
  • Tier 5 - temporary migrants (Youth Mobility Scheme, temporary workers)
  • EU Settlement Scheme - Staying and studying in the UK after Brexit
