I am Professor Pamela Gillies, and as Principal and Vice Chancellor of Glasgow Caledonian University I would like to welcome you to our university and assure you that you have made an excellent choice.

Deciding to come to university and selecting your course of study are two of the biggest decisions you will make at this stage of your life.

Glasgow Caledonian University offers a stimulating, vibrant and accessible environment for learning, teaching and research in one of the UK’s most exciting cities.  Silver Eco Campus Award winners, we are striving to be more sustainable in all we do.

17,000 home and international students make up our student body in Glasgow, and we aim to provide each and every one with an excellent award winning student experience, a high-quality education delivering valuable skills which appeal to employers, and opportunities to broaden your understanding through internships with companies and study abroad periods with our partner Universities overseas in the USA, Bangladesh, Oman, Chile and China.

Your university’s research is recognised internationally in fields such as health, business and finance, and the built and natural environment, and we offer a range of exciting and innovative courses taught by great lecturers and designed to enhance your academic capabilities.

But we aim to make you think about our mission as a university, to promote the common good.

I am extremely proud of our students many of whom volunteer to be mentors in our initiatives at home designed to improve the aspirations of children and families from the most disadvantaged of backgrounds, and others who help out as volunteers in our activities overseas such as in the Nursing and Midwifery School in Dhaka, Bangladesh.  When you graduate from here I can assure you you will be well rounded global graduates and citizens.

And remember to take advantage of all the fun and friendship your Students’ Association offers through fantastic sports clubs and societies.

I know that coming to university will transform your life. We look forward to welcoming you into our academic community and we are here to support you through any challenges you may face and of course through all the good times.
