Student Leaders Programme

The Student Leaders Programme supports GCU student volunteers to improve and develop their leadership skills.

Opportunity to develop the following Common Good Attributes
Confidence
Responsible leadership
What’s involved?
The Student Leaders Programme is open to any student who is a volunteer or student representative at GCU, the Students' Association or within the community. The programme is designed to help students identify the competencies (skills, knowledge and behaviours) they need to develop, and to reflect on what they could do to become a more effective leader. We support this development by offering Personal Development Workshops that include sessions run by external organisations and employers.
How will participating in this activity/opportunity allow students to make a positive difference to the communities that we serve?
Students must be active volunteers to take part in the Student Leaders Programme. They will be able to apply the skills they develop through participating in the programme to their voluntary roles, whether within or out with the University.
What are the benefits of taking part in this activity/opportunity for participating students?
Participating students will develop leadership skills and confidence, and will have the opportunity to meet new people from across the University. The workshops are active and fun, and participating students receive a certificate once they have completed the programme.
Success stories
The Student Leaders Programme won the NUS Scotland Student Opportunities Award 2016 and came runner up in the NUS UK awards.
