Health and Safety on Campus

Please see below for information on Health and Safety on Campus.

Do I need to report if I have Covid-19?

All students who receive a positive Covid-19 result or who are required to self-isolate must report this to GCU via our dedicated student helpline on +44 141 331 3130 or email coronavirushelpline@gcu.ac.uk.

The helpline is available Monday – Friday 9am-5pm.

Please note: if you have covid-19 symptoms you should not come onto campus and should arrange a PCR test as soon as possible.

Will social distancing be in place at GCU for academic year 2021/22?
Our approach to physical distancing is voluntary, however we do expect staff and students to keep a reasonable distance from each other and be respectful of individuals personal space.

We’d recommend getting to classes on campus early to avoid overcrowding in corridors.
Will the use of facemasks be required in buildings?

In line with Scottish Government guidance, staff and students will be required to use face coverings inside all buildings unless eating/drinking or medically exempt.

This includes when in class, studying in the library and sitting down for a catch up with friends in one of our social spaces.

If you forget to bring a face covering, you can pick one up from the Govan Mbeki reception (located on the first floor as you enter the building) or the Students' Association Building reception.

Will we be operating one way systems in buildings?

We are carefully reviewing our one-way systems, especially those that were put in place where corridors weren't wide enough to support two-metre social distancing, to ensure that routes remain safe and practical.  Some may change or be removed during the course of the academic year.

Do I need to take a Covid test before I start my studies on campus

All students are asked to book a free PCR test before they return to campus in September.

Book your PCR test

Please select the option “I've been told to get a test by my nursery, work or place of education” and then “I'm a student returning to university in Scotland.

If you are unable to access a PCR test, please take two lateral flow tests.

Please note: if you have covid-19 symptoms you should not come onto campus and should arrange a PCR test as soon as possible.

Will I need to take regular Covid tests in Trimester A?

Free LDF tests for home are freely available and ask students and staff to test themselves twice-weekly.  The tests will be supplied from the Arc gymnasium on campus and can be picked up from the reception between 10am and 4pm (Monday - Friday). Kits can also be ordered online for home delivery.

Order lateral flow tests online.

Please note: if you have covid-19 symptoms you should not come onto campus and should arrange a PCR test as soon as possible.
