Zoe Nicholson was recently elected as Vice President (SCEBE) and started her role with GCU Students’ Association at the beginning of June.

We caught up with Zoe and found out her aims and goals for the year, as well as her love for McDonald’s chicken nuggets!

Firstly, how do you feel about being elected as VP SCEBE?:

I’m incredibly excited for the year ahead. I feel honoured to be elected as one of the Full Time Officers. In elections week, I really pushed myself out of my comfort zone and even to run was an achievement in itself for me. It shows that hard work does pay off! I’m also excited to work with such a good team this year.

Could you briefly let us know what you would like to achieve as VP?:

Myself and the other officers haven’t yet decided on our objectives, however I’ll still be working on some of the things in my manifesto. For example, providing more support for direct entry students, especially if they won’t have that initial on campus welcome. Another is to investigate more development opportunities for sports clubs to help them play at the highest level that they can. Mental health will also be a key focus this year due to the changes going on in the world. It’s extremely important to ensure all students feel supported by the university in these unsettling times.

What did you study at GCU?:

International Sports Management, I entered university in third year as previously I completed a HND in Coaching and Developing Sport at Edinburgh College.

What did you always want to be when you grew up?:

It’s a strange one, but when I grew up I always wanted to be a chef - until I was 16 and realised they have to work until really late at night!

Favourite film/TV show?:

My favourite TV show is Sex Education on Netflix – it’s absolutely hilarious and never fails to make me laugh.

Favourite food?:

My favourite food has to be chicken nuggets, preferably from McDonalds.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live and why?:

I would say Gold Coast in Australia. It seems like such a nice place to live, as well as having an incredible beach right at your door step!
