GCU Student’s Association has recently held their annual STAR Awards – with 14 winners declared on a night of celebrating student success!

Fourth year Digital Security, Forensics and Ethical Hacking student Christopher Brown received the award for Best Overall Contribution to Radio Caley – the University’s student lead radio station. Chris has been part of Radio Caley for three years – spending the last year as Station Head.

Christopher felt very grateful to have received the award. He said: “It’s a good feeling! It's great to get recognition for the work that has been put in to the station.

I'm thankful to those who nominated me for the award and to the volunteers who voted me into the role in the first place. It's a great end to a great experience at the station.”

For those who are interested in joining Radio Caley, Christopher encourages them to get involved. He said: “Don't be afraid to message the page and ask, everyone there is so welcoming and helpful.

A lot of people think that because it's a radio station you need to have a show, but that isn't the case. There is so much that you can do, especially with the IT side of it - you don't have to go on air.”

He added: “The station is such a great community to be a part of in the university.

Being in the community is even better. I've seen the impact that my role has had; adding in features which other students (especially media and journalism students) have utilised to create portfolios which have led them to jobs for when they leave. This is the most rewarding part of the role.”

The STAR Awards is an annual event held by GCU Students Association to celebrate students' hard work and dedication throughout the year. For more see here.
