The daughter of a GCU student was left delighted when Scottish Minister Nicola Sturgeon responded to her hand written letter, describing it as “the best day of her life”.

Seven year-old Ava Sajed decided to write a letter to the Scottish Minister to say thank you for keeping her mother (who has Multiple Sclerosis) safe during the COVID-19 outbreak.

In her response, Nicola said that the letter “really cheered me up and made my day extra special”. The Scottish Minster also appreciated Ava’s help to teach her younger brother about the Corona Virus.

Ava’s mother never expected Nicola to respond to the letter due to her busy schedule. She said: “She couldn’t believe it. I had said in the initial email to the first minister to not feel pressured to respond, and I’ll be honest, we weren’t expecting one, because we know how busy she is.

Ava just really wanted to send her a thank you letter, as she has been watching the Scottish Government briefings every day.”

She added: “We were so happy that she took time out of her busy schedule to respond to Ava.

Like I said, we weren’t expecting one, so to get one so soon after sending was just amazing, and testament to her leadership. We’re going to remember this period of our lives for a variety of reasons, but the children of this country, and all over the world for that matter, will remember this differently – and what a beautiful memory to have.

Imagine being that age and having someone in that position taking their time to acknowledge your effort. An absolutely priceless moment.”
