THIS PAGE WAS LAST UPDATED 17/06/2020

We are looking forward to welcoming you to what will be a great new academic year at GCU should you choose to study here. The experience of all of our students remains our priority and we will be doing everything we can to make sure you enjoy learning through our blended approach of online and face-to-face teaching and to give you as many opportunities to create new friendships and experience everything the GCU community has to offer you!

The health, safety and wellbeing of our students and staff will continue to be our highest priority and we are keeping in touch with all of our applicants and enquiries as more information becomes available. Please remain safe and we look forward to seeing you soon!

For more information, please expand the dropdown boxes below.

Start date

We have decided to start a little later than usual this year. Induction commences on Tuesday 29 September and teaching begins Monday 5 October.

Your application

The Admissions and Enquiry Service is continuing to process applications in the usual way. The team are all working remotely, you may find there is a slight delay in the response time while we all settle in to our new ways of working. Thank you for your patience.

GCU on-campus events

Glasgow Caledonian University takes the safety and wellbeing of our staff, students and visitors seriously. The unprecedented public health challenge around COVID-19 makes it impossible for us to continue with our plans towards running various on-campus events. Therefore, we have had to postpone or cancel the following events:

Open Days

The two undergraduate Open Days scheduled for 2 September and 3 October 2020 are unfortunately unlikely to be able to go ahead - the webpage will be updated if there are any further developments. You can also register your interest to attend events and we will be in touch via email with updates.

Offer Holder Events

The on-campus events have been substituted by a range of online opportunities to speak with us directly. We are currently arranging a number of web chats with our programme leaders and you will shortly receive your invite.

Campus Tours

We have postponed our campus tours for the next few months. Should you wish to visit us then please visit our campus tour page and register your details.  We will keep you up to date when we are running these tours.

International Summer School

It is with regret that we have made the decision to cancel the GCU Summer School 2020.  We are currently looking into plans for future opportunities for you to come to the university for an experience similar to that of Summer School. Should you wish to be kept informed of these opportunities you can complete your details and we will keep you updated on these possible options.

School, college or university closures impact

We are aware that a number of places are facing widespread school, college and university closures and affected students will be anxious about the impact this may have on their application. Glasgow Caledonian University will support all its applicants in the best way that we can in order to get our applicants through the usual admissions process and we will continue to monitor the situation.

Entry qualifications

If you are waiting to take school or university qualifications in a country where the education system is closed, you may not know yet if you will be able to take your exams as planned. GCU is aware that different systems across the world are at different stages and we will be flexible in assessing your eligibility. Please keep us informed about progress towards meeting the entry criteria.

English language test centres

We know that test providers are intending to offer additional test appointments once they reopen to deal with the backlog.

We will continue to monitor the provision of English language tests over the coming weeks and will assess the impact this is having on our offer holders to identify if there are any actions we can take to alleviate problems with access to tests.

Further information will be made available on this page as soon as it is available.

In the meantime, please continue to prepare for the English Language Test using the support materials from the major test providers:

Please check for further test centre information on IELTSTOEFL and Pearson PTE.

INTO English language preparatory courses and Pathway INTO programmes

Courses from June 2020

Online Pre-sessional English

We will be offering 8 and 12-week pre-sessional English courses online only from June to September 2020. Our pre-sessional courses are the best way to bring your English up to entry-level for university study. The courses are taught by our partner, INTO Glasgow Caledonian University and besides the IELTS test, DuoLingo, Pearson and Cambridge are all accepted.

Online Academic English

Our partner, INTO Glasgow Caledonian University, will be offering a 10-week online Academic English course over the summer, as an alternative to face to face provision. Academic English is designed to improve your English language skills to the level required to progress onto your university preparation course.

Courses from September 2020 onwards

We look forward to welcoming international students to the INTO GCU Study Centre on campus in September. We are continuing to monitor the global situation and are currently developing plans, which may include additional online courses, should global travel restrictions prevent you from being able to arrive on campus. For the latest information visit INTO's coronavirus webpage.

Visa centres

We are aware that visa centres have been closed for several weeks now in some countries. We hope that visa centres will reopen before students will need to apply for visas, but we will keep the situation under review. Please ensure that you check the GCU VISA pages for current Government updates, surrounding COVID-19 and other visa and immigration information.

Deposit payments

In the event a course is cancelled by the University, any deposit payments will be refunded. In the event that a course is postponed to another date then the deposit would remain unless an applicant cannot attend on the new date. In this circumstance, the deposit would be refunded.

Accommodation

Applications for our Glasgow Campus, Caledonian Court are open as normal. Find out more.
