Between March 21st and 29th 2016, our new supplier, Konica-Minolta, replaced 47 out-of-contract Canon printers used by staff across the GCU Glasgow campus.

This rationalised our printer fleet for staff from 15 different models to 2: Bizhub C454e and Bizhub 4050.

Here is a full list of the new print devices and their locations: Print Device Replacement Schedule

Why did we do this?

GCU’s contract with Canon came to an end on March 31, 2016.

The new print devices offer a number of benefits including:

  • faster printing
  • double-sided scanning
  • A3 colour printing
  • a scan to me function available for University email addresses
  • several finishing options
  • secure printing technology
  • the ability to print from any Konica-Minolta device available to you.

Print jobs will only be released to print when selected, reducing the number of wasted prints sent in error.

Key change

A key change for staff who use these print devices will be the need to identify yourself at each use. This can be done by manually entering your network ID and password onto the printer screen, or by scanning and associating a card with your network ID.

You are strongly encouraged to use your staff ID cards to access the new printers. However this will not be possible if your card does not feature the current GCU logo. In this instance, you should make arrangements to visit the Campus Life Desk (on the 1st floor of the George Moore building) over the next few weeks to get a replacement card.

In the meantime, if you have an older card you can request a temporary print card from your local print contact or the IT help desk. A poster with printing instructions will be positioned alongside each new printer which will include contact details for each designated print contact.

Non-staff members (e.g. agency temps, casual workers) do not currently receive an ID card, but will be able to access the printers by manually entering their network ID and password, or by requesting a print card from their local contact.

A list of local print contacts can be found here: Print Device Contacts List.
