Setting up eduroam

Installation for your device must be carried out when on Campus. Please follow these steps:

  1. When on GCU campus, search for and connect to the Wireless network called gcu-wifi-setup.
  2. Open a web browser and the following web page with connection instructions will open up: http://www.gcu.ac.uk/staff/it/wirelessaccess/gcu-setup-wifi
  3. Click on the link to eduroam CAT, select ‘download your eduroam installer’ then select Glasgow Caledonian University. The site will detect your operating system and automatically download the appropriate installer.
  4. Run the eduroam Auto Installer.
  5. Enter your username in the following format:
    Staff - username@gcu.ac.uk and your current domain password.
    Students - username@caledonian.ac.uk and your current domain password.
  6. Press Start Setup. Once setup completes, press Exit.

Note for Android devices

If you have an Android device a different method is used to install the eduroam profile.

  • Please go to the Google Play Store and download the ‘eduroam Companion’ App.

  • Select Glasgow Caledonian University.
  • Enter your username in the following format:
    Staff - username@gcu.ac.uk and your current domain password.
    Students - username@caledonian.ac.uk and your current domain password.
  • This can be done on or off campus.

OR

From off-campus, go to: https://cat.eduroam.org/

  1. Select ‘download your eduroam installer’ then select Glasgow Caledonian University. The site will detect your operating system and automatically download the appropriate installer. If you require an installer for another system click on the All platforms link.
  2. Run the eduroam Auto Installer.
  3. Enter your username in the following format:
    Staff - username@gcu.ac.uk and your current domain password.
    Students - username@caledonian.ac.uk and your current domain password.
  4. Press Start Setup. Once setup completes, press Exit.
  5. You will need to be on campus in order to check that the installation was successful and you can connect to eduroam.

If you have previously used eduroam with an old password, or from another establishment you may need to first remove the previous settings

iOS Devices (iPads, iPhones)

  1. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi, click the blue I button beside eduroam and select Forget This Network

Mac OS X Devices (Laptops)

  1. Go to Applications folder > Utilities > Keychain Access > Passwords
  2. Search the list for eduroam and delete these entries
  3. Select the Apple Logo > System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi or Airport then select Advance
  4. Remove any network profiles named GCU or eduroam by selecting the name and pressing the '-' button, then close the window

Windows Devices

  1. Click the Network icon on the lower right corner of your screen
  2. Click Network settings
  3. Click Manage Wi-Fi settings
  4. Under Manage known networks, click the network you want to delete
  5. Click Forget. The wireless network profile is deleted
