Setting up eduroam on campus

Installation for your device must be carried out when on campus. Please follow these steps:

  • Search for wi-fi and connect to the wireless network eduroam
  • A login box requesting a username and password will appear
  • Enter your Domain username followed by@gcu.ac.uk - for example, abc21@gcu.ac.uk, and enter your domain password
  • On first connection a certificate authorisation page will appear - Click Connect. The setup is now complete and you should be connected to eduroam network.

Using the eduroam installer

If the standard on campus set up does not weork. Try the eduroam installer.

  • When on GCU campus, search for and connect to the wireless network called gcu-wifi-setup
  • Open a web browser and the following web page with connection instructions will open up: http://www.gcu.ac.uk/staff/it/wirelessaccess/gcu-setup-wifi
  • Click the link, selectdownload your eduroam installerthen select Glasgow Caledonian University. The site will detect your operating system and automatically download the appropriate installer
  • Run the eduroam Auto Installer
  • Enter your username in the following format: username@gcu.ac.uk and your current Domain password
  • Press Start Setup. Once setup completes, press Exit

Setting up eduroam off campus

From off-campus, go to: https://cat.eduroam.org/

  • Selectdownload your eduroam installerthen select Glasgow Caledonian University. The site will detect your operating system and automatically download the appropriate installer. If you require an installer for another system click the All platforms link.
  • Run the eduroam Auto Installer
  • Enter your username in the following format: username@gcu.ac.uk and your current Domain password
  • Press Start Setup. Once setup completes, press Exit
  • You will need to be on campus in order to check that the installation was successful and you can connect to eduroam.

Android devices

Some Android devices may have different menu options; the instructions may vary slightly between makes and models of handset and version of Android.

  1. Go to  Settings > Wireless > turn on Wifi, search for eduroam & select it.
  2. If you haven't already configured credential storage, you may be asked for a password to protect the credential storage on your phone. This is a security setting on your handset and not your University Computer password. Enter a memorable password here to continue.
  3. Set EAP method to PEAPPhase 2 authentication to MSCHAPV2
  4. Enter your username in the following format: 
    username@gcu.ac.uk (eg abc1@gcu.ac.uk)
    Please note that this user name is NOT an email address
  5. Enter Password: your domain password
  6. Leave the Anonymous identity blank
  7. Tap the Connect button
  8. Wait a little while (up to about a minute) until the message "Connected to eduroam" appears
  9. A connection to eduroam will automatically be made in future if Wi-Fi is switched on and you are within range.

 

Blackberry devices

  1. Press the Menu button then select Manage Connections > Setup Wifi Networks > Next > Scan for Networks
  2. Turn Wifi on it it's not already on & select eduroam from the list
  3. Enter your username in the following format:
    1. username@gcu.ac.uk (eg abc1@gcu.ac.uk)
      Please note that this user name is NOT an email address
    2. Enter your domain password
  4. Click CA certificate and select [Comodo AddTrust External CA Root], or [AddTrust External CA Root] in V6
  5. Click Inner link security and select EAP-MS-CHAP v2
  6. Enter in the Server subject field: isorps2.gcal.ac.uk
  7. Click Connect > Next > Finish
  8. You are now connected! 

Apple iOS devices (iPod, iPhone, iPad)

  1. If you have previously used eduroam as a member of another establishment you will have to remove the previous settings.
  2. Remove Profile (Settings > General > Profile > Delete Profile)
  3. Connect to Eduroam (Settings > wifi > Eduroam)
  4. Enter your username in the following format: 
    • Staff: username@gcu.ac.uk (e.g. abc1@gcu.ac.uk)
    • Students: username@gcu.ac.uk (e.g. ajones01@gcu.ac.uk)
    • Please note that this user name is NOT an email address.
  5. Enter your domain password.
  6. Accept certificate.
  7. Your device will authenticate and connect to the secure network.

 

Mac OS

  1. If you have previously used eduroam as a member of another establishment you will have to remove the previous settings.
  2. Go to Applications folder > Utilities > Keychain Access > Passwords search the list for eduroam and delete these entries (if any).
  3. Select the Apple Logo > System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi or Airport then select Advance.
  4. Remove network profiles with GCU or any named eduroam (if any) by selecting the name and pressing the '-' button, then close the window.
  5. Open the drop down menu for Network Name menu, select Join other network then show networks. Select eduroam and press OK.
  6. Enter the following details on the login screen:
  7. Enter your username in the following format: 
    • Staff: username@gcu.ac.uk (eg abc1@gcu.ac.uk)
    • Students: username@gcu.ac.uk (eg ajones01@gcu.ac.uk)
    • Please note that this user name is NOT an email address.
  8. Enter your domain password.
  9. Click Join.
  10. When presented with the Verify Certificate notification, click Continue.
  11. Enter your OSX Keychain password, if prompted.
  12. You are now connected to eduroam.
