Audio Visual Support

Audio Visual Services is located in the William Harley Building. The video conference suite, workshop, off-air studio and edit suite are located on the ground floor of the William Harley Building.

Aims

  • To ensure the most efficient and effective audio visual service that is possible is delivered to staff and students of the University
  • To promote good practice in the use of audio visual equipment and materials in relation to all aspects of Health and Safety procedures
  • To continually attempt to update audio visual facilities in the face of rapidly changing technology and to appraise staff in new techniques

Services

AV bookings

Requests for AV bookings can be submitted via the Request Catalogue in My Service, or you can click on the links below to go directly to the forms. If you are viewing this off-campus, you will need to log in with your GCU domain credentials first.

Off-Air recording

This service provides recordings of TV and radio programmes for teaching use. If you require an off-air recording contact the IT Helpdesk (x1234) with your request.

If you wish to keep your own copy a charge of £2.00 is made for the DVD and £1.00 for the CD.

If you require a programme that has been broadcast in the past then we will do our best to obtain it for you through the BUFVC's missed off-air recording scheme. There is a £30 administration charge per half hour recording for using this scheme.

If you prefer a digital recording, consider using the Box of Broadcasts Service. This is a self-service scheme which works similar to a Digibox.

Photography

AVS can provide a wide range of photography, from general photography, photographs of presentations, groups and individuals; to more specialised technical photography for research projects.

A range of different formats are available, digital and 35mm for web and general work with larger formats for high quality publications.

There is in addition a scanning facility for materials up to A3 (both reflective and transparent) and a 35mm slide scan service.

Skype

Skype is available at GCU AppStore 

Logon with your GCU domain logging details to authenticate and launch Skype.

In order to use Skype you will need to have:

  • A webcam, microphone and speakers
  • A valid Skype or Microsoft account is required to sign in to Skype (for example Outlook.com or Hotmail.com)
  • Visit https://login.skype.com/account/signup-form to create your own Skype account

Video conferencing

Video Conferencing enables participants at different venues to participate in meetings by means of transmitted audio and video signals.

The University has two video conferencing suite situated in H023 (ground floor of the William Harley Building) and in room M401. The VC equipment is available in all rooms in CEE building first floor as well and any VC booking should be booked via My Service

The suite also has the following facilities:

  • Ability to transmit maps, drawings, documents, 3D objects etc. to remote sites using visual presenter.
  • Datasharing facilities.
  • Relay from meeting to larger group of people if required (15 max).
  • Ability to cue-in/playback video footage to other sites as required
