Research Excellence Framework

Anonymous comments for the REF2021 Code of Practice Document

The Research Excellence Framework (REF) is the periodic assessment of research across the higher education sector in the UK.

In REF2021, our research will be assessed with respect to its outputs, impact and our environment. In late 2020, GCU is likely to submit to up to 9 Units of Assessment. This will involve identifying ‘Staff with Significant Responsibility for Research’, and, from that, our ‘Category A Submitted’ staff, as well as how we will assess the outputs of the latter group. Each Higher Education Institution intending to submit to the REF is required to agree with the funders (in our case, Scottish Funding Council) a Code of Practice for how to go about these tasks.

We are opening up a two-week consultation period for anyone to send their comments or suggestions for any modifications. You can submit comments in one of two ways:

The draft Code of Practice will also be presented to Senate on the 1st March. Please submit your comments by the 28th February.
