New research leader in GCU’s Glasgow School for Business and Society

Professor Karen Miller

GSBS’s newly-appointed Associate Dean (Research) Professor Karen Miller will start in her role on Monday, 3 March.

A Professor of Politics and Public Policy in the Social Sciences, Media and Journalism department, Karen has extensive academic and research experience having worked in leading universities in South Africa, USA and UK.

In addition to her academic career she has worked with and for public sector and civil society organisations to improve governance, public policy and public services. She has also worked for a donor organisation to promote democratic development on an international scale.

She said:  “I am delighted with the opportunity to support colleagues in their research and to contribute towards building a research community in the School.”

Karen has a strong research publication record in various aspects of public policy, political-administrative leadership, public governance, public management and gender equality. She is joint editor of the journal Public Policy and Administration, serves on a number of editorial boards, and has spent the last six months on sabbatical editing a new book on international governance and conducting research on representation in the public sector.

She takes over from Professor Alex de-Ruyter, who has been covering the role since becoming Head of the Department of Law, Economics, Accountancy and Risk last year.
