Erasmus project investigates international education models

Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) is taking part in a three-year Erasmus+ project which will help higher education institutions implement quality teaching and learning resources for the rising numbers of internationally mobile students and international education providers.

Erasmus+ is a European Commission funding stream supporting capacity-building projects in the field of higher education.

The Educational Quality at Universities for inclusive international Programmes (EQUiiP) project aims to fill a gap in current provision by developing modules for the use of educational developers and teacher trainers working with university teaching staff in internationalised curricula. The project kicked off with a meeting at GCU this month.

The internationalisation of higher education has resulted in a greater diversity of learners and teaching staff in universities. This places new demands on the university teaching staff and programme directors who need to master an additional set of skills and competencies in addition to their disciplinary expertise. It also places additional demands on educational developers and teacher trainers. The EQUiiP project will provide our educational developers with an integrated programme of Continuing Professional Development modules.

The EQUiiP project is a partnership of seven European universities with proven experience in delivering Continuing Professional Development to university lecturers in the context of internationalised curricula; EQUiiP is a continuation of the work of the IntlUni Erasmus Academic Network project (see www.intluni.eu).

The EQUiiP project partners are Aarhus University, Denmark; the University of Copenhagen, Denmark; the University of Bordeaux, France; the University of Freiburg, Germany; the University of Groningen, The Netherlands; Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain; and Glasgow Caledonian University, United Kingdom.
