About the Counselling Service

Claire O'Donnell, Student Counsellor/Therapist

Claire is a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with experience of delivering brief solution focused therapy to individuals experiencing a range of psychological difficulties. She has previous experience of working with both voluntary and statutory organisations. 

Meg Lavery, Student Counsellor/Therapist

Meg is a Person-Centred counsellor who provides one-to-one counselling and facilitates workshops. She has over 18 years experience of working in Higher Education within a variety of roles, principally in Student Support Services. One of her areas of research interest is in Attachment theory; the forming, developing and nurturing of relationships. She also has an ongoing interest in the field of neuroscience research and its’ impact on therapeutic approaches and practice.

Duncan Thomson, Student Counsellor/Therapist

Duncan is a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist who has worked in a variety of settings with a range of issues. He has experience of working with people on an individual basis and in groups. His professional interests include mindfulness based cognitive therapy and compassion focused therapy.

Nicoletta Abbate, Student Counsellor/Therapist

Nicoletta is a Person-centred counsellor specialising in Emotion Focused Therapy. For more information about EFT please click here. She has a keen interest in women personal development and women group-work integrating her experience in Women’s Studies, therapeutic research of women’s development and embodiment practices.

Louise Ferguson, Administrative Assistant

Louise provides administrative support and a friendly front-line reception service to the Wellbeing Team. Louise can arrange and reschedule appointments with any of the Counsellors, and offer advice on many procedural issues relating to the services offered by the Wellbeing Team.
