Health, Safety and Wellbeing at GCU forms a key part of our governance structure, with the University Health and Safety Committee reporting directly to University Court. Further information is available in the University Court section of the website on the Health and Safety Committee page.

A number of policies have been developed to help ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of our community. These can found in the Staff policies section.

The University has been successful in its bid to achieve the Gold Healthy Working Lives Award for 2014. GCU was the first University in Scotland to achieve the Healthy Working Lives Gold Award in 2013 for recognition of our on-going commitment to the health, safety and wellbeing of staff. The Healthy Working Lives Award programme is designed to help employers and employees work together to make workplaces safer and healthier and to benchmark progress. It also bases health promotion activities around the diverse requirements of staff.We offer a range of staff benefits including health promotion activities, as well as support services for students. Occupational Health support staff wellbeing through ensuring that the work staff are engaged in do not cause ill health or exacerbate pre-existing medical conditions.

The PAM Assist offers a free 24 hour service to help staff on a wide range of work and personal issues that impact upon general wellbeing. Username and password can be accessed via GCYou, People Services, Staff Benefits: Health & Wellbeing.

GCU is committed to promoting equality and diversity, and aims to create a working and learning environment free from discrimination and harassment. The University has an active Harrassment Contact network in place that can offer informal, impartial and confidential support and advice.

The ARC health and fitness centre promotes the health benefits of exercise within a friendly and comfortable environment. There is a comprehensive programme of exercise classes to suit all levels of fitness, and first time exercisers are encouraged to come along. Staff and their partners are entitled to discounted rates for membership.
