A business started by GCU graduate Alison Burn has won a prestigious RBS Most Enterprising award at the 2014 Jobs and Business Glasgow Enterprise Awards.

Alison Burn, who completed a BA in Entertainment and Event Management, picked up the award for her customised and handcrafted bobble hats.

She started the company with her mother Carol, leaving behind her job as a travel consultant, and, in just two years, the hats caught the eye of a local retailer. Wonky Woolies are now purchased online all over the world as well as being stocked in Japanese department stores.

She said: “When I started the business, it just seemed right and I’ve no regrets. I just decided one day that if I don’t do this now, I could risk losing what I’ve been working towards. I had to devote all my time to the business to stand a chance of seeing it grow. It was a huge gamble but it has been a good decision for me.”

Alison added that she was delighted to win the award, describing it as a fantastic boost for the team and testament to their hard work
