Celebrating the success of GCU's Alumni

22 April 2014

The University has announced the recipients of its Alumni Achievement Awards.

The awards, given to graduates from GCU, celebrate those who have excelled in their field and, as a University that is committed to its social mission and motto of promoting the common good, the recipients were reflective of these values.

Christopher To, Jaswant Hayre, Pat Dunion, and Douglas Dawson were chosen by Principal Professor Pamela Gillies CBE.

Secretary-General of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre and Engineering Management graduate Christopher To received an award for his leadership within Zero Carbon Building technology. He was also recently named Mediation Lawyer of the Year by London-based Finance Monthly Magazine.

Showing leadership skills in the field of banking while also working with injured Royal Marines, BA (Hons) Business Studies graduate Jaswant Hayre paid tribute to the work of lecturers saying that without whom he would not be where he is today.

Pat Dunion, Chief Operating Officer with Transform, received her accolade for business excellence and for her work with Transform Clear Charter.

She said: “GCU taught me a broad range of topics in business which really set me on my way and has helped me in my role, as a Chief Operating Officer, to take Transform to a new level.”

Award-winner Douglas Dawson, a Chief Operating Officer in Caparo Group, was recognised for his leadership skills and the company’s partnership with RSA Academy within the field of Engineering Management.

“GCU was the first step on a very exciting and rewarding career in engineering, and, without this platform, I would not have been able to realise my ambitions.

“I hope these awards inspire young people to contemplate a career in industry regardless of their background," he said.
