GCU showcases migrants' lives in Scotland

15 December 2016

GCU is supporting the United Nations’ International Migrants Day (December 18) with a display of the Migrant Voice ‘Engaging Pictures’ exhibition, which includes photographs and stories representing migrants’ lives and their part of life in Scotland.

Migrant Voice is an organisation with a vision of an equitable society where migrants and are recognised for their contribution, embraced as valuable members of our community, and their voices equally heard. The Engaging Pictures project brought together migrants and Scots to engage in a dialogue and promote a better integrated Scotland.

The images are being shown in the foyer of the Centre for Executive Education and can also be viewed on the GCU Image Gallery.

Photographer Karen Gordon said: “I am so pleased and excited these portraits are being exhibited for International Migrants Day this year, as now, more than ever, the positive aspects of migration need to be highlighted.”

GCU will also host ‘Migrants and Migration Post Brexit; finding our voice to influence the new landscape’, a Migrant Voice conference, on January 21. This one-day media-skills focused event will involve staff and journalism students from within the Glasgow School for Business and Society and members of the Scottish media.
