A GCU business student will complete an internship with world-leading food manufacturer Mars after being named Future Business Leader of the Year.

International Business with Business Law student Sarahjane Sarkhosh won the hotly contested Target Jobs Undergraduate of the Year award.

The award is sponsored by Mars and Sarahjane will now spend the summer with the manufacturers, including a week at the company’s food site in South Africa.

More than 3000 students submitted applications across 12 award categories and Sarahjane was one of 120 undergraduates invited to the London final following a gruelling process of online tests, interviews and even an assessment at Mars’ Waltham site.

Newsreader Fiona Bruce presented Sarahjane with her award, which recognised her passion for sustainability in business.

Sarahjane said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been named the UK's Future Business Leader of the Year, especially as the title was from Mars, an extremely successful company. Throughout the whole assessment process, Mars' commitment to graduate development was evident and I am looking forward to spending time with them this summer. During the awards ceremony, I was incredibly proud to represent GCU and my time there has given me every opportunity to develop my leadership skills and business acumen.”

Alec Wersun, from the Glasgow School for Business and Society said: “We are very proud of Sarahjane and this award is fantastic recognition of her commitment to her studies and her passion for adopting a sustainable approach to business. Sustainability is embedded throughout the curriculum at Glasgow Caledonian University and our commitment is demonstrated through being a signatory to the United Nation’s Principles for Responsible Management Education.”
