GCU Honorary Graduate Armando Iannucci last night won two Emmy awards as a writer and executive producer of the hit US political comedy Veep.

Dr Iannucci, who was presented with an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters by the University in 2011, was presented with the awards at a ceremony in Los Angeles.

As one of Veep’s Executive Producers, Dr Iannucci shares the Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy, and as one its three writers, the Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series award. Veep went on to win a total of five Emmy awards.

Speaking at GCU as he accepted his honorary award in June 2011, Dr Iannucci said: “I don't know if comedy is as useful as molecular biology or business management, but I think it's just as necessary. I'm really delighted the University thinks so, too.”
