BA (Hons) Nursing Studies student Louisa Power received an award at the Nursing Times’ inaugural Rising Stars event.

The event, held in London on Tuesday, June 30, recognised 25 student and newly-qualified nurses for their outstanding contribution to the profession at the outset of the careers.

The final shortlist was decided upon by a 10-strong panel of judges, including Chief Nursing Officer for England June Cummings and Public Health England Chief Nurse Viv Bennett.

The winners were selected from across the four branches of nursing – adult, paediatrics, mental health and learning disability – and were judged on the impact they have had on the profession, how far they have challenged convention, their commitment to career progression and their leadership skills.

Louisa said: “I was really honoured to have won this award and it was a fantastic experience to spend the evening with some of the UK's most innovative and lateral thinking student nurses. Taking part in this experience has reinforced the important role that students play in helping to shape the future of our profession, and that it is never too early in your career to act as an advocate for change.”
