GCU’s Student of the Year Goodness Wondah and Cultural Activities Coordinator Mariela Gaitan are to discuss how GCU is enhancing the student experience at the UK Council for International Student Affairs annual conference.

In a presentation entitled “Enhancing the international student experience: the role of Cultural Activities Co-ordinator”, Mariela will explore her role, including the delivery of the International Welcome Programme’s International Orientation Week: a programme of social, practical and cultural activities.

Mariela said: “I’ll be discussing how we maintain the momentum of GCU’s incredibly positive Welcome experience and channel that into a year-long programme of social, cultural and faith events, as well as looking at opportunities for growth and the exciting prospect of the new student services hub.”

Goodness, who has held roles including Cultural Activities Assistant, Welcome Team Ambassador, Student Mentor and School Officer, will explore how he has helped shape the experience of fellow international students.

Said Goodness: “Not only is the conference a useful showcase for the amazing work Mariela and the team does, it also shows the steps GCU takes to make sure its international students are well looked after, which is great.”

GCU established the Cultural Activities Co-ordinator role in the International Student Support Service team in 2013. Its remit is to focus on the delivery of the September and January Welcome programmes, as well as organise social, cultural and faith events throughout the year.
