A Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) student has won the 2015 Student of the Year Award at the Alarm Risk Awards.

Doctoral Researcher Paula Karlsson, who has a BA (Hons) and MSc in risk management, received the award at the annual awards dinner held in Birmingham on Monday, June 22.

Paula is currently researching risk in public service partnerships, with case studies from Scotland, Finland and Sweden, and was recognised for her achievements within the sector. Her PhD aims to have a practical outcome with a good practice model and develop existing theory and contribute to the overall knowledge concerning collaborative practice.

Paula said: “I was delighted to receive the award from the industry body and to be recognised among those already working within the industry. It is amazing to know at this stage of my PhD that practitioners are likely to value the findings of my research, motivating me to make an even greater contribution to practice and not just theory.”

The awards, which celebrate the achievements of public service and community organisations in the management of risk, are organised by the Public Risk Management Association and are highly regarded as a measure of excellence in the management of risk and insurance in public service and community organisations.
