GCU New York is hosting an exhibition of portraits of inspiring Scots during Scotland Week.

The exhibition - ‘Brush with Inspiration’ - is by contemporary artist, Gerard M Burns and captures 16 prominent Scots including First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, Billy Connolly, actors Alan Cumming, Elaine C Smith, Laura Fraser, Ewan McGregor and Brian Cox,  author Denise Mina, journalist and broadcaster Kirsty Wark, Helena Kennedy QC, and composer Craig Armstrong.

Gerard said: “The sitters are a combination of talented Scots with an American profile, Scots that have made it in New York and Scots talent that we just want to celebrate. Proceeds from sales or donations for the paintings will go to The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice fundraising for their new hospice in Glasgow.”Born in Glasgow in 1961, Gerard is one of Scotland’s most respected artists. The exhibition builds on the success of his 14 for 14 exhibition, which was launched during the XX Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last year.

Scotland Week is an annual programme of business, civic and tourism engagements aimed at the promotion of Scotland as a great place to study, live, visit, do business, and invest.

The exhibition runs at GCU New York, 64 Wooster Street, between April 8 and 17.
