Professor Lesley Sawers led a review into the role of women in Scotland, business growth and the issues women face in their careers.

The report, which was published today by the Scottish Office, was undertaken by Professor Sawers in her role as a member of the Scottish Business Board and at the request the Scottish Secretary Alistair Carmichael.

Professor Sawers made a number of recommendations to tackle the gender issues identified including mainstreaming attitudes and behaviour; measuring for impact and providing mentoring schemes for female future leaders.

Professor Sawers, Vice Principal and Pro Vice-Chancellor Business Enterprise and Innovation, said: “In recent years significant progress has been made in addressing the challenges women face in their careers and caring roles.  Major issues however remain and this Review has focused on understanding these challenges within a Scottish context and has identified an action plan that can deliver real and lasting change for generations of women across Scotland.”
