Graduates of Johannesburg’s African Leadership Academy gathered at GCU New York for an annual professional development programme.

The Baraza event (Swahili for intellectual gathering) was organised by the African Leadership Foundation and offered 81 ALA alumni hands-on learning opportunities and mock interviews with prominent industry figures from companies including IBM, KPMG and Linkedin.

Based in Johannesburg, the African Leadership Academy aims to transform the continent by developing ethical and entrepreneurial leadership skills in outstanding high-school aged teenagers. The ALA alumni who attended the event are all studying in the US.

GCU New York Vice-President Cara Smyth said: “It was tremendous to host students from the African Leadership Academy at our New York campus. I was captivated by the hands-on teaching the students were guided through and the curiosity of talented young leaders.”
