GCU to welcome World Solo Drumming Championships 2014

17 October 2014

This year’s World Solo Drumming Championships will take place at Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) tomorrow, Saturday, October 18.

The event, delivered by The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA) and sponsored by Andante Drums, will see the very best drummers from top pipe bands around the world compete for honours.

The musicians will be tested in two events: March, Strathspey and Reel; and Hornpipe and Jig. The drummer with the highest aggragate scores after both events will be crowned champion.

University Secretary and Vice Principal Jan Hulme said: “GCU is delighted to welcome the World Solo Drumming Championships back to the University and we look forward to welcoming enthusiasts , whether they are cheering on a favourite drummer or simply want to enjoy the great performances on offer.”

The heats will take place from 1.30pm in the George Moore and Govan Mbeki buildings and the Adult Final will take place in the Carnegie Lecture Theatre in the Charles Oakley building. The event is free to attend, with the exception of the Adult Final, which is priced at £5 per ticket.
