Razak is the Programme Leader for the MSc Public Health. He joined Glasgow Caledonian University in 2013 as a lecturer in Public Health/Epidemiology. He works in both Glasgow and London. Razak leads the Epidemiology module on the programme and contributes to other modules, including the Principles and Theory of Public Health and the Advanced Research Methods modules.
Razak’s research focuses on epidemiology as well as behavioural and attitudinal issues underpinning the health of minority ethnic and migrant populations in the UK.
His research has included work on the epidemiology of diabetes and its risk factors among West African populations; psychosocial determinants of diabetes self-management among African-origin populations in the UK; and most recently psychosocial determinants of diabetes self-management in the workplace.
Dr Abubakari’s methodological research interests also cut across a number of themes and include systematic reviews and meta-analysis in public health; linking of secondary and routinely collected data for health-related research; and development and validation of scales and questionnaires for use in different population groups.
Prior to joining GCU, Razak worked as a lecturer in Health (Public health) at Liverpool Hope University. He had previously worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow at University of Dundee, where he also completed his PhD, and as a Research Associate at Edinburgh University, where he completed his MSc in Public Health.
