The Future of Sustainable Railway: A Tale of Two RCM Analytic Approaches? Professor Babakalli Alkali, from the School of Computing, Engineering and Built Environment, will deliver his inaugural professorial lecture on Tuesday, March 2. The lecture, entitled The Future of Sustainable Railway: A Tale of Two RCM Analytic Approaches?, will explore how the application of remote condition monitoring is used for data collection of critical systems on trains, and how a reliability centred maintenance approach can be used to analyse failures in order to improve the performance and safety of trains. Professor Alkali will use these analytic approaches to look at the importance of data in deciding what type of maintenance policy should be implemented on railways before trying to determine how it should be done efficiently. He will also outline the benefits of analytics towards sustainable performance and costs associated with disruptions and cancellations of service operations in the industry. He

Jonny Benjamin MBE - A story of hope and recovery and how we can all overcome any adversity in life. Jonny Benjamin MBE is an award winning mental health campaigner, writer, filmmaker and public speaker. As part of Mental Health Awareness Week which takes place 18th – 24 May, Jonny will deliver an exclusive talk to GCU staff, students and graduates at 4pm on Wednesday 20th May. Jonny will share his journey with mental illness, from the first experience of seeing a psychologist at the age of 5, through to a breakdown and hospitalisation at the age of 20. This led to a suicide attempt in which Jonny was saved by a stranger. Six years later, after a long period of recovery, Jonny launched a campaign to find this stranger which went viral and resulted in the pair being reunited. Jonny recounts his story with honesty and frankness. Soon after he found the stranger he had a relapse and returned to hospital. In the years since, he has had several relapses, and now at the age of 33 Jonny
