Jonny Benjamin MBE - A story of hope and recovery and how we can all overcome any adversity in life. Jonny Benjamin MBE is an award winning mental health campaigner, writer, filmmaker and public speaker. As part of Mental Health Awareness Week which takes place 18th – 24 May, Jonny will deliver an exclusive talk to GCU staff, students and graduates at 4pm on Wednesday 20th May. Jonny will share his journey with mental illness, from the first experience of seeing a psychologist at the age of 5, through to a breakdown and hospitalisation at the age of 20. This led to a suicide attempt in which Jonny was saved by a stranger. Six years later, after a long period of recovery, Jonny launched a campaign to find this stranger which went viral and resulted in the pair being reunited. Jonny recounts his story with honesty and frankness. Soon after he found the stranger he had a relapse and returned to hospital.
