Distance learning services

GCU Library has an extensive collection of eresources - including ebooks, online journals and databases to support your studies. Your librarian can help you get started using our resources and how to find the information you will need.

Resources

Use the Library’s Discover search to find eresources such as books, journal articles, conference proceedings and more. At the top of the left hand menu you will see an option to search for items with full text online - all are available using your domain username and password. We have a Discover guide to get you started.

We are unable to post hardcopy books to you.

If an article is not available online but we have a print copy in our journal collection we can scan and email it to you. Email the Scanning service at clascanrequests@gcu.ac.uk with:

  • Your name
  • GCU email
  • GCU Student ID number or Library number
  • Title of journal article
  • Author(s) of journal article
  • Journal title
  • Journal volume and issue no
  • Year of publication
  • Page range

If you require an article outside our collection we may be able to supply it by inter-library loan.

Using other libraries

Distance learners in the UK and Ireland can sign up to the SCONUL Access scheme - which allows you to use another university’s library for study.

Your local public library is also a very good resource - they can arrange for books to be brought in and often have online resources too. The OCLC Worldcat library search can help you locate your nearest library.

Support

Your librarian can help you find and use our resources effectively. They can help you develop a search strategy and suggest subject specific resources.

There are online subject guides to help you find the best resources for your topic.

There are also a number of study skills ebooks available via Discover. Try searching for the keywords “search skills” and select book / ebook as content type.
