Visiting the library

Visiting the library

Students and staff of GCU can use the library website to find out about the wide range of services and support we offer.

Users from other universities

Users from other universities are entitled to free reference access to our paper based collections. You may be entitled to borrowing rights if your institution is a member of the Sconul Access scheme. Check your eligibility and apply online prior to your visit.

GCU is an eduroam site, so if you are visiting from another institution which takes part in the scheme, you can connect to the internet via Wi-Fi. Find out more on the University's eduroam page.

All users of the library have access to our café on level 0, and study facilities on all floors.

Members of the public

We are always pleased to show visitors around the Saltire Centre, and to discuss the building and how our library service operates within it. To make this easier to arrange, and to avoid disappointment, please give a minimum of two weeks’ notice before your visit. Please send your request to library@gcu.ac.uk

Computer access for visitors

If you are visiting for a conference the organisers may have arranged a temporary Wi-Fi password for you. Check your conference pack for details and contact the organisers if it's not included.

If you are here on a longer study tour or visit, access is arranged with our Information Services Department by your contact in the host academic school or department.

Tours and groups

We are always pleased to show visitors around the Saltire Centre, and to discuss the building and how our library service operates within it. To allow us to accommodate any requests, please give at least two weeks’ notice before your visit. This enables us ensure that the most appropriate person is available to assist you.

To arrange a tour, please email library@gcu.ac.uk with the following information:

  • Full name
  • Job title
  • Area of interest (such as design of the building, how the library service supports a specific subject area and so on)
  • Number of people in your party (maximum of 15 per group)

We regret that we cannot offer access to online services due to security and user agreement restrictions.
