Digitised dissertations

Digitised dissertations

The Library provides a service to host digitised dissertations online and on GCULearn. The service is intended to showcase exemplary dissertations. The following steps outline the process that academic departments should follow before submitting dissertations to the Library for hosting on GCULearn.

  • Departments must ensure there is no business sensitive material included in the selected dissertation and that the dissertation has been passed through Turnitin.
  • Departments must ensure the student owner of the dissertation signs a GCU library deposit declaration for projects and dissertations‌  authorising the Library to make their dissertation available.
  • Department staff members should send completed deposit declaration forms to librarysystems@gcu.ac.uk. We require that forms are forwarded to this email address by academic staff (rather than by students directly) as this represents departmental confirmation that the dissertation is considered to be exemplary. Please note we cannot make dissertations available without a signed and completed form.
  • Departments may then upload a PDF version of the dissertation to the Library's digitised dissertations SharePoint folder.
When the Library has received the completed deposit declaration form from the department, and the dissertation (in PDF format) has been uploaded to the designated SharePoint folder by the department, we will then transfer the file to GCULearnIf requested, the Library can provide a direct link to the digitised dissertation which can then be added to Resource Lists within Leganto.

Please note that as defined by the University’s Generic Retention Scheduleundergraduate and masters dissertations made available on GCULearn will be retained for three years only.

At present dissertations are not accessible using the Discover search. However, you can browse the titles available on GCULearn.

If you require any further assistance or guidance in submitting a dissertation for hosting on GCULearn please contact librarysystems@gcu.ac.uk.
