Can I measure the performance and impact of a group or department?

Yes, you can use Web of Science (WoS)* to get publication and citation data for a particular group and measure a group’s collective impact (publication count, times cited and h-index). You can also see where your group or department publishes most, who they collaborate with and so forth.

You can also use another tool by Thomson Reuters called Essential Science Indicators (ESI). This allows you to compare your particular discipline’s output across and against the performance of institutions internationally. ESI can be accessed via the Web of Knowledge suite of databases.
