Click and collect

Click and collect

From the 7th September 2020 we will be operating an online click and collect service to access our physical book stock. This also means that you will be unable to browse the physical book stock within the library. If you have requested books using the click and collect service you must bring your student card with you when you come to the library to collect your books. The library is actively looking to provide as many key texts as possible in a digital and online format. We would encourage students to use digital and online copies where possible.

Please note that until 21st September there will be no access to study space within the library building. After this time study spaces will be bookable via an online booking system. You can find out more information about bookable study space at the library's book a study space webpage.

How to use the click and collect service

Go to Discover, sign in by clicking the Sign in button on the toolbar at the top right of the screen. Select Domain Login (All GCU students and staff) and enter your domain username and password to sign in.

Search for the item you are looking for using the search box.

Click the item title, then in the Get It section of the item details page click Request

In the pop-up box at  Pick Up Location, select Glasgow Campus (if at GCU London, select London Campus). Please note GCU London students can only place requests for GCU Glasgow books at the GCU London Library Desk.

Click Send Request, you will see a confirmation that the request has been placed.

When the book is available an email will be sent to your University email account. The item can be collected from the Collection Point at the Library Desk. Please do not come to the library to collect any items until you have received an email confirming they are available for collection. You will have seven days to collect your books from the date you receive your confirmation email.

To cancel a request go to Discover, sign in and choose Library Account. You can now see an overview of your account, click Requests and cancel the item you no longer require.

How to collect your books

After you have received your email confirming your item is ready for collection, come to the Library with your student or staff card. You will not be able to borrow without your card.

Once you arrive you will be signed in by a member of staff for Test and Protect purposes.

Your book will be available from the collection point at the Library Desk on Level 0, arranged alphabetically by last name. You can collect your book and check it out to yourself using the self-service machines located beside the collection point.

Please note that face coverings are mandatory when in the building unless you have a medical exemption.

How long does it take?

Please do not come to the library to collect any items until you have received an email confirming your book is ready for collection. You will have seven days to collect your books from the date you receive your confirmation email.

We recommend checking Discover for any eresources first to save yourself time.

Returning books

Return all books via the 24 hour book drop located outside the library to reduce the need for you to enter the building. Any fines accrued over the period of library closure due to Covid-19 will be waived.

Book requests made prior to 7th September 2020

Please note all book requests made prior to the 7th September 2020 have been cancelled. In order to implement a click and collect service, cancelling all requests made prior to the 7th September 2020 was a necessary requirement. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. If your book request was made prior to 7th September 2020 and you still require the item, you will need to re-apply via the click and collect service.
