The Library and Archive Centre are currently closed. Please refer to the FAQs below to discover which services continue to be available.

When will the library reopen?

The library will reopen as soon as possible. Please refer to back to these pages for regular updates.

I have items on loan, what do I do?

Keep all the items you have on loan. When the library reopens we will ask you to return them.

Will I be fined while the library is closed?

No. The library has suspended fines for the period of closure. If you receive any notices relating to fines during the period of closure, please ignore this until the library reopens.

Can I return items to the library?

No. Please keep all items until the library reopens.

Are library drop-ins available?

Drop-ins are available online 11am-3pm Monday to Friday. Join an online library drop-in session.

Can I make an appointment with an academic librarian?
  • Yes. Online appointments are available between 10am-5pm Monday to Friday. Evening appointments may be available by arrangement. It would be helpful if you could also let us know your programme and level of study.

How can I access electronic resources, including ebooks, ejournals and databases?

Use Discover to search for ebooks, ejournals and databases relating to your topic. You can find out how to search effectively using Discover at our Discover Search Guide webpage. You can also search specifically for ebooks using ebook publisher sites and subject specific collections to find books that are available online.

I’m having a problem accessing an electronic resource, where can I find help?

Where can I find help on searching for resources in my subject area?

Your starting point should be your library subject guide. Our Essential search skills and resources page contains information on improving your search skills and locating quality resources. We also have a specific guide for dissertation students.

I have an inter-library loan, what do I do?

Keep all the items you have on loan. When the library reopens we will ask you to return them.

Can I request an inter-library loan?

Physical items cannot be requested for inter-library loan however e-resources may be available. Requests can be placed direct from Discover by either:

  • Carrying out your search and selecting Expand My Results Beyond GCU Library Collections; choose the Get It tab where available and sign in; click Inter-library loan request,you will be taken to the request form which will be automatically populated with the information about your chosen item.
  • or, using our Inter-library loan request form. You must log in to use this form and input the information about your request.
I want to request a physical item or collect a physical item I have requested, what do I do?

All physical item requests are suspended for the period of closure. If you receive any notices relating to requests during the period of closure, please ignore this until the library reopens.

Where can I access resource list information and Leganto support?

Our resource list webpages provide information that cover a wide range of resource list and Leganto queries.

Can I still upload my research outputs to Pure?

Yes staff should continue to upload research outputs to Pure to ensure REF compliance. Pure can be accessed off campus without need for VPN. Staff should also continue to be aware of the Open Access requirements for REF2021.
